Lutein and Zeaxanthin are 'caratenoids', natural substances found in dark green, leafy vegetables that have antioxidant and other health promoting capabilities, particularly for the eyes. Because Lutein and Zeaxanthin are not produced by the body, they can only be obtained from food or supplements. Up to five servings of vegetables and fruits a day may be needed to provide an optimum level of these important nutrients.
