MGO™ Manuka Honey is labelled based on the minimum Methylglyoxal content (mg/kg) it contains. As Methylglyoxal is the active compound directly responsible for the antibacterial activity of Manuka honey, the higher the Methylglyoxal content of MGO™ Manuka Honey, the stronger the antibacterial activity.
According to the manufacturer, this MGO 400+ Manuka Honey has been tested and is certified to contain at least 400mg/kg of dietary methylglyoxal, a natural compound found in significant quantities in only some manuka honey. Methylglyoxal has been identified by the University of Dresden (Germany), as the compound giving manuka honey its unique activity. The university's tests have found a minimum 100mg/kg of dietary methylglyoxal is required to be of benefit.
Directions:
Take 1 teaspoon (5g) 30 minutes before meal, 3 times daily. Intake can be increased if necessary.
